We have a visitor

March 11 - 2008
My regular readers do know we have an agreement with Solvi to be Cat sitters for each other when needed.
This time we have Stompa with us in our winterhome. I picked him up early in the afternoon on Monday, and drove the 20 km ( 12 1/2 mile) just before the afternoon rush hour. Stompa prefere I do that, as he is not a good and comfy car passenger. That's something we can both hear and smell.

He does not like turns, nor tunnels. It's a 1800 meter tunnel ( 1 1/8 mile) with heavy trafic he is specially angry about. And he tells me - loudly (and he hear and smell the traffic - notice Cats do smell 14 times better than humans). No panic, but mieat mie miech is this?

When arriving in our winter residence, I opened his cage, and then he ran just the size of a single hair over the floor - and disappeared.

Rosa and Felicia did noticed their well know guest and cousin. But, the first hour, they left him alone. It was for the sisters pollock (warm white fish) dinner first choice

- Pssst, miusshhh, we have a visitor
- Mjueah - I know
- mieewoo - it's Stompa
- Mjeah - let him be alone for a while
- mjbuut
- mjut up - let him be alone
- mjyeah - Mi've agree

Stompa the Boss and the ruler of his regular Neigbourhood. But very sceptical to humans. He knows what's the most dangerouse species on Planet Earth
But hunger makes a shy Cat brave. And after 1 hour, Stompa did walk into the Kitchen with his missing tail right up in the sky, and got his special dinner. Special in the sense that Solvi gave us a whole plastic bag with his favourite meals. Like parents allways do.

What's up? I'm allways allerted
In the evening he jumped upon me while sitting in a chair - just for 5 seconds, and at bed time, he even stayed in the bed for nearly a minute. Until Felicia came and asked him to join the cats night feast. We observe the results of the feasts each morning.

You see, I can relaxe
Stompa will stay with us for 2 weeks (incl Summerhouse, we hope), when Solvi is visiting Ingelin in Hong Kong.

PS. When Stompa sees the camera, he normally hides. That's why it's so few photos of him.
Do not click to enlarge - it's not at all sharp.

3 Facts about Cats you should know: True or False?
#1 The cat uses it's tail like a tight-rope walker uses a long pole - as a counterweight to aid balance. Even though the tail is useful for this, it is also used for communication purposes. Cats born without tails do manage, though. There are other methods of balancing

#2 Did you know that cats can listen for prey by rotating their ears independently? Or that their whiskers can detect movements 2,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair? Or that house cats, unlike other domesticated animals, have changed very little over the past 4,000 years?

#3 The infamous Black Plague in Europe was due in part to the fact that people believed those with cats were witches. So all the cats were rounded up, caged and burned, leaving the rats (with their disease causing parasites) to run free and multiply. Those harbouring cats were often those who survived.
#1 False - we have tailess cats that handles balancing signficantly better than cats with tails
#2 Right - when coming to the domestic cats as known from the Egyptians. But other small cats have been domesticated since then. Some are very clever hunters, others will only stay inside on your lap.
#3 Right - with the result the Plague expanded more rapidly and ended with a real catastrophy
(If you can recall the medievel paintings of the devils head - you see why the Cats were hated. The devil was painted with Cats Ears and eyes when lit up during the Nights. Dogs were only wharewolwes

Stompa is a handsome boy ! I could hear him singing until here while you were driving home, lol !
N°1 of your list is only true for the tailless bread, all "normal" cats are first completely lost when they loose their tails. I remember Arthur behaving like a drunken sailor when his tail was out of work because that bad black cat had bitten him !

That was a really fascinating fact about the Black Plague! I'd never heard this before.

Anela doesn't like to be photographed either, and I have to catch her either sleeping or beg her for a photo! :-)

I really liked all your cat facts in here today. I knew my cats were amazing smellers but had no idea they could smell that much better than us humans...and your true and false were very interesting.

Always nice to learn something
new about my feline pals.
Very sweet photos, always hard
to know if cats will be friendly
or not if they don't know each
other well or see each other
often. Have a good day!
