An unforgetable Saturday in Southern Provence

My regular readers know we were happy to be honoured guests in the home of Claudie and Pierre first week of October – in Ollioules. We had a most wonderful time together.  And on Saturday we went on a very special sightseeing in the nearby enviroments. History fra A to Z.
Evenos vview to South -Gorges below
First we went up the Gorges d’Ollioules – a deep vally carved out by the water for millions of years and then turned right from old N8, to climb up to Evenos. A very tiny settlement.
Evenos - fort 1
Here is the 1000 year old Dungeon.
Evenos - on the Cliffs the Evil lived
St Martin was the settlements protector against the “bad” man that lived across the Valley. And came at night….
Evenos Church dedicated St Martin
St. Martin in the Church named by him
Evenos - Steep and Tower
Evenos is a very old settlement. Here you see the old Dungeon on top of the Cliffs. It was volcanoes here before the formation of the Alpes several hundred million years ago.
Evenos - Rocks
Narrow Paths between the houses and the dungeon on top Evenos - Gorges d'Ollioules
Wonderful views down the Ollioules crevice
Evenos - Old ruins - Volcanic stones
Here is the old Wall and ClaudieEvenos Geese
After such a wonderful historical experience we thought about something very French: Goose Liver.
Eveneos - We eat - we drink
Here for example, in Evenos: We Eat, we Drink -  (On mange, on boit)
Evenos - houses 1
Well we had to say farwell to Evenos..
Evenos - Mont Caume
Heading for the Highest point in this part of Southern France: Mont Caume. In the Background here.
Back where they married 29 yeras ago
Why? And where?
Back where they married 1981
Le Broussan – Claudie and Pierre was married here in this very Church back in 1981. So folks, remember next year to celebrate..
Mont Caume - women talks
But we had to go further. To the highest point in Southern Provence. Very narrow road
Mont Caume - Pierre - Fôret Blanc
It was very windy up there …
Mont C - at top 3 happy people
But a 360 degrees vie
Mont Caume - Paragliding forbidden
The terrain is protected. No paragliding etc allowed from the Cliffs.Artisan BoulangerAfter the Mountain,
we went hereKakepakke And this was what we brought home – inside mmmmmm. Just a secret you must discover for yourself.
At the end of the Day: Pierre was le Chef once more.
After Mont Caume -a taste to our fantastic hostesses
A toast for all of you. Was it Champagne, Créme de Bourgogne or Créme de Alsace. We know.
Papa had to climb up once again - to bed
After a day in the Mountains, papa had learned how to climb. Instead of a Head Helmet he found a Nouse Helmet.  When will he ever learn?

Have wonderful week.

More to come from France, Norway and even Turkey.
So look into my blog from time to time.

I will comment as often as I can - but have 16 hours workdays for a week or so...

What a fabulous report Tor!!! you are a wonderful photographe! the pictures with the Evenos castle are fabulous and the atmosphere isn't at all neutral! This provençal village is an invitation to enter in the Middle Age time!!! It isn't at all touristic. Only people who love this time and the beauty of the place come here!
After our ascension to the Mont Caume we were in the best disposition for a good moment at table!!!

You're having the time of your life, Tor, and right now that's all that matters. Just watch your nose. (Today I stumbled while walking upstairs, so maybe I was unconsciously thinking of you! :) )
