Sunday Poweroutage for 7hours and 15 Minutes

Sunday, June 6, 2010:
Papa went shopping as usual. This time of year to the Garden Centre.  Just before noon. To buy to some soil for the Blueberries.
Then he went back and spread the soil around the Blueberrie bushes. Had some Lunch in the Sunshine and then he heard two sharp noises, like from pistol shots: bang – bang.
Over kilen
Something is missing between the white house to the left and the red one to the right.
Well, what was that? Such sounds around noon? Hmmm.
Then Anna said: We need seeds: Beans, Persils, Squash and some soil and fertilizers (ecological of course).
Yes, it was another drive to the Garden Center. Driving and shopping takes around one hour.
When returning to the Summer House, both of us realized: No Power – Electricity.
Checked our own Power Supply.
Noting wrong.
Asked Neigbours. Same problem. No Power Supply.
On a Sunny Sunday. No storm. No flooding. No rain.
Aha, that noise…
Yezz, once again an amateur sailer had hit the Power Cables (High Voltage) to the Island just down under us.
He even tried to flew away, but he was stopped by several boats.
Result: He will receive a large bill. At least €10.000 or USD 12.500 from the Power Company.
The Problems for the thousands that were without electric power for 7h 15 minutes, from noon to 7:15 pm, all Sunday plans for Dinner and other activities were nilled out. Even food in frigdes and freezers where of course damaged in the Summer temerature.
Papa will follow up in order to have a compensation.
In the Photos below, you will have an idea…
 Cables cut off
Here is the point where the power  cord starts to the Island. And also must be isolated to repair the damage.
cables to this Island
Here are photos where you can see, enlarge, the missig 3 power cables. If you click on the Photo You will see there is Power mast just to the left of the red house. But no Cable.
detalj kilen
Here details. Cables broken.Mast and white house
Here is details. See they are working to stretch a new cable. Look from left and see the white cord.
The Air Power line is very well marked with several signs, also on all Drafts (Sea Maps – and has been there for 50 years)
Unplanned grilling
We had to find, luckely from last year, some coal make an alternative dinner – which was not at all planned for Sunday Dinner. Some sausages….
The Battery on my LapTop was gone and unusable thereafter. New have been ordered. Food and beverages in Fridge and freezer have been damaged. No connections with Internet – had work to do….
All thanks to a person that should not have been allowed to sail at all.  Several thousands got their Sunday put upside down. All plans  turned down. Due to a an irresponsible person.
Papa has no polite words at all to such selfish behaviour.

A sailboat? Is that what took out the lines? I'm guessing that's right. Lots of folks are out on the water and have no idea what they are doing. I'm sorry this messed up your Sunday afternoon.

Have a terrific day. Big hug to you and Anna. :)

Å så skummelt! Og ikke minst irriterende å bli fri for strøm slik plutselig og langvarig, det er da vi skjønner hvor avhengig vi faktisk er av denne strømmen...

I had the same thing happen to me Tor....no power the other day; but only for an hour or so, and we never found out what happened. You were out of power for a pretty long time...I hope it didn't make too many problems for you.

Ouch. Det är rätt åt den där seglaren att han får en saftig räkning. Han kan ju sälja båten för att finasiera ersättningen av de kapade kablarna!

A little coucou to Anna! I think to her in this end of schoolyear! We wait all hardly the holiday, now at school! We have still a show with the pupils, some evaluations and the kermesse! Plus I'll do the theater show on the 26!!!
After that I will on my knees but happy and free!

It makes you realize how much we depend on power, Tor. We never know when a person will do something stupid or an act of Nature will take everything down in a second! Glad everything is back to normal now.
