We are moving - TT

Hello dear reader,
1)we will move out to our Summerhome on Friday, no matter of the weather. We can't wait any longer. Rosa and Felicia tells us their way, they are fed up with the 2) Litter Box for the season and they wanna be free hunters outside in the Nature. It's needed, 'cause it seems to be more mice than in several years. The Cats rules.

3) And we miss the beautiful view from our platform. Oslofjord and Islands. The one in the background is more than 200 meters ( about 625 feet) high. It used to be a military and restricted area until not that many years ago. Now it's free admission to that Island (The High Island - Håøya from høy øy lokalt kalt Håya)) and all the douzen others in the area.

4) Not to talk about flowers and green fingers. Even the Cats enjoy our outdoor Greenhouse. Do you see both Rosa and Peder Fur? Clue: One is on the Roof. Click to reveal.

5) Here is Paprika or Sweet/bell pepper - both greens and red - seeds from an organic we did buy 2 years ago.
6) The new seasons ones are allready in good shape for the season to come. But we will keep them in our Winterhome for yet some weeks. (Might still be cold during the Nights.)

7) Our platform is the Paradise Restaurant for Rosa, Stompa and Felicia - Open air 3-star Catelin category. LOL.

8) I do hope we can connect to Internet Friday evening from our Summerhouse. Excuse us if some problems will occure - and also for me packing for our seasonal move this evening. I'll get in touch, read and comment all my blogger friends recent posts ASAP.
9) Season hugs
10) Anna and Tor
11) Rosa and Felicia

Epilog:
12) We brought in the Cats Cages and our Grand Trunck. The Cats ran away. I took a bath in the Tube. Lot's of Salt. When I returned from my "Spa" - the Cats were sniffing on their Cages. But when we where close to them - they ran away again. They are exited to go to the Summer Home, but also feel sentimental to leave a safe winterhome. They are really alike us. That's one of the reasons we adore cats. They a very much a like humans when coming to feelings. Exact the same center in the brain for feelings that homo sapiens.
-- I did learn a new word this evening: (hard to wright though) Miaaoowee mieow
( I do understand - do not forget Cat can understand 700-800 of your words and vica versa?)
13) More hugs

TT Thursday April 3 - 2008

Last Week I did start a journey – Cities/Towns I’ve visited around the World
beginning with the Letter A – This week they all begin with the letter B.

Let’s start this weeks travel: (This week also with a few private photos - want not make the post too long for you, my dear reader)

1-Bergen – Norway

Bergen, The Capital of the Norwegian Fiords, as seen from Floien Mountain. Just some minutes with the Cable Car from the City centre. Part of the City is on UNESCO's World Heritage list

2-BodoeNorway
(Nearby you'll find Saltstraumen - the Worlds most powerful malstroem - and you can even experience the Midnight Sun end of June)

3-Berlin – Germany
(My first visit was in 1965 - via that times DDR - we were lucky not shot at the Frontier between BRD and DDR. But that's another story - wich was written about in a Magazine)

4-Bonn – Germany
(Do you know which very famouse composer, beginning with todays letter, was born here?)

5-Basel – Switzerland
(Can you believe it - I've gone with a 20 feet motorboat from Norway to Basel/Bale in Switzerland - And don't laugh when I say: The Basel Harbour is large and important)

6-Balazuc – France

Here we are with friends in Balazuc, Chez Paulette (Cafe and Post Office), back in 1985. Anna is #3 from left. I'm in the middle. Ingelin (7) is sitting on Patrique's lap (A very good friend from Nivelles/Charleroi in Belgium - several visits - he even stayed with us for a couple of months in Norway) and Mats 10 years old to the right. What a great time and memory. We went to Balazuc for 6 concecutive Summers

7-Bordeaux – France
(If you like excellent wine, seafood, culture and soccer, plus have a short way to Europes best Beaches, Highest sand dunes and best surfing conditions, besides visiting the fabulous river valleys in SW France, then this is the city to visit)

8-Besancon – France
(Victor Hugo was Born here - the citadelle is special and the River Doubs as well. I know the river from my Europe on rivers and channels tour in 1965)

Go to Thursday (TORsday) Thirteens Homepage. It's very interesting what you can learn from bloggers TT. At first hand I did not realize, but now I see, it's much more than blah, blah about myself

Have a great rest of the week

2x13 hours in Mariestad

TORsday Thirteen March 20 - 2008
- Pictures and some Facts from Mariestad, Sweden.

Yesterday afternoon I arrived at Renny's and Diane's leisure home in Mariestad. It's a 4,5 - 5 hours drive from Oslo. The weather and driving conditions were perfect. Here are 13 photos from the first 2x13 hours there. PS. Do not hesitate to click to enlarge the Photo(s) of your choice. You may find some hidden Viking Treasures

1-Sunset as seen from the Livingroom Window

2-Diane has received some Fun Mail

3-Renny too did receive some pleasant mail

4-Next Day, we went for a walk (both our Cars were undergoing some necessary "treatments" at our "CarVets" - LOL) - it ended up with 90 minutes, on concrete. Before we picked up the first Car. Then Picked up the shopping Lady Diane. And then the second Car. Both Cars are no declared healthy and safe to drive.
5-See these stones? They are placed in a certain manner. So what is it? They are reminicences from an old Viking "Thingur". A what? It was here that all disputes were judged and the Viking Chiefs or Local Kings discussed their matters. About 1000 years ago. At least.

6-Mariestad Cathedral. It's really dominating over the old town.

7-Where the river Tida meets Lake Vänern, the largest lake in the Nordics (and 3rd largest in Europe).

8-View up the river Tida with the old Bridge that leads to downtown Mariestad.

9-Easter Flowers at the Flower Market. See, they are yellow. Why is yellow the Colour of Easter in the North? Go here for an unbelievable computer translation. I simply fell off the Chair and Renny allmost called for an Ambulance.

10-Springflowers at the Flower Market
11-Stadshotellet - meaning Hotel City - every Swedish Town with selfrespect do have it's own Stadshotel

12- Street Kitchen. These are typical in Sweden- Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Kebabs, Icecream and all sorts of sweets
13- Sculpture at the New Market. It's called Vänernskeppet - The Vänern Ship.
You can find RennyBA's post from and about Mariestad here

TT 13 March 6 - 2008

Did you know #2
1. In 1894, the president of the Royal Society, Lord Kelvin, predicted that radio had no future. The first radio factory was opened five years later. He also predicted that heavier-than-air flying machines were impossible. Today, there are more than one billion radio sets in the world, tuned to more than 33 000 radio stations around the world. The Wright Brother's first flight covered a distance equal to only half the length of the wingspan of a Boeing 747.
2. Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing.
3. The word posh, which denotes luxurious rooms or accomodations, originated when ticket agents in England marked the tickets of travelers going by ship to the Orient. Since there was no air conditioning in those days, it was always better to have a cabin on the shady side of the ship as it passed through the Mediterranean and Suez area. Since the sun is in the south, those with money paid extra to get cabin's on the left, or port, traveling to the Asia, and on the right, or starboard, when returning to Europe. Hence their tickets were marked with the initials for Port Outbound Starboard Homebound, or POSH.
4.
At latitude 60 degrees south you can sail all the way around the world.
5. You can cut a pie into 8 slices with only 3 movements

6 Leonardo Da Vinci invented the scissors.
7 Both humans and Cats have identical regions in the brain responsible for emotion
8 QANTAS, the name of the Australian national airline, is a (former) acronym, for Queensland And Northern Territories Air Service.
9 Almonds are members of the peach family.
10 Yucatan, as in the peninsula, is from Maya "u" + "u" + "uthaan," meaning "listen to how they speak," what the Maya said when they first heard the Spaniards.
11 Utigardfossen, the highest free-fall waterfall in Norway, drops 850 meter, 2788.7 feet - and is also the third highest in the world
12 Norway has hundreds of fjords, the largest is Sognefjorden , which is 204 Km long (nearly 126 miles)
13 In September 1752 the Julian calendar was replaced with the Gregorian calendar in Great Britain and its American colonies. The Julian calendar was 11 days behind the Gregorian calendar, so 14 September got to follow 2 September on the day of the change. The result was that between 3 and 13 September, absolutely nothing happened!.

Thats enough facts for this week. See other 13 on Thursday here

Thursday Thirteen

You may know me as a curious person. Hunting for knowledge and facts. Even "funny" facts. Most listed here are from "Did you Know"

Did you know?

1) Easter bunny originates from ancient Anglo-Saxon carnival

The ancient Anglo-Saxons celebrated the return of spring with a carnival commemorating their goddess of offspring and of springtime, Eostre. The word carnival possibly originated from the Latin 'carne vale' meaning "flesh, farewell" or "meat, farewell." The offerings were rabbits and coloured eggs, bidding an end to winter.

As it happened, the pagan festival of Eostre occurred at the same time of year as the Christian observance of the Resurrection of Christ and it didn't take the Christian missionaries long to convert the Anglo-Saxons when they encountered them in the 2nd century. The offering of rabbits and eggs eventually (in the 8th century, it is thought) became the Easter bunny and Easter eggs. Read more it's soon Easter.

2) A cat's brain is more similar to a man's brain than that of a dog! And that a cat do have 100 different sounds while dogs have 10.

3) CO2 discharge from computers (power consumption, incl cooling) are equel to that from the Airline Industry. Every time we are on internet we create a carbon dioxid footprint.

4) In the 6th century BC Greek mathematician Pythagoras said that earth is round - but few agreed with him. Greek astronomer Aristarchos said in the 3rd century BC that earth revolves around the sun - but the idea was not accepted. In the 2nd century BC Greek astronomer Erastosthenes accurately measured the distance around the earth at about 40,000 km (24,860 miles) - but nobody believed him. In the 2nd century AD Greek astronomer Ptolemy stated that earth was the centre of the universe - most people believed him for the next 1,400 years.

5) With all its grazing and many stomachs, it is no wonder that cows are one of the main contributors to the hole in the ozone layer. Apart from CFC, the biggest culprit is hydrocarbon emissions from cars and cows. Yes, cows! Cows release some 100 million tons of hydrocarbon annually - by releasing gas. To give you an idea of how much gas a cow emits: if the gas of 10 cows could be captured, it would provide heating for a small house for a year. (Free energy for Farmers. TorAa, comment)

6) Coffee is the world's most popular stimulant: 4 out of 5 Americans drink it, consuming more than 400 million cups a day. Consumption in Scandinavian countries is more than 12kg (26lb) per capita. With more than 25 million people employed in the industry, coffee is second only to oil in world trade.

7) A diamond is the hardest natural substance on earth, but if it is placed in an oven and the temperature is raised to about 763 degrees Celsius (1405 degrees Fahrenheit), it will simply vanish, without even ash remaining. Only a little carbon dioxide will have been released.

8) If the amount of water in your body is reduced by just 1%, you'll feel thirsty.

9) The muscle that lets your eye blink is the fastest muscle in your body. It allows you to blink 5 times a second. On average, you blink 15 000 times a day. Women blink twice as much as men.

10) Indian comic actress Manorama has played the most leading roles of any performer in movie history. She began her career in 1958 and in 1985 had appeared in her 1,000th movie.

11) The paperclip was invented by Norwegian Johann Vaaler.

12) If you suffer from phronemophobia you are afraid of thinking (Think about that)

13) In Norse mythology the 13th number led to the death of Baldur, the beloved of the gods. When the 12 gods gathered for a banquet in Valhalla, Loki gatecrashed the party, increasing the number to 13, which led to the death of Baldur. It also happens that in Tarot cards, 13 is called "Death."

Did you enjoy and learned something?

TORsday 13 - Jan 24 - 2008

My 13 this Thursday is from The Iguazu Falls on the Frontier between Argentina and Brazil. All pictures taken first week of December 2007. I will come back to more details about the trip and the surroundings and sad facts about the Rainforest. You my look at this as a teaser. OK?

1 - Walking in the Rainforest, you can hear a noise. And suddenly ----

2 - Wow - what is this?

3 - Closer and closer

4 - Very close - you can even come here in a wheel chair.
5 - Here the River starts falling down into the Cataratas de Iguazu - Foz do Iguazo

6 - Water everywhere - it's incredible large
7 - Waterclouds
8 - Rainbow
9 - Impressive

10 - Close and wet - haha - very refreshing
11 - These birds lives only in the Iguazu Falls. Their body temperature force them to stay inside the falls - but they need food and fly out to catch insects. But they can not stay outside for many minutes. Enlarge to watch.

12 - Can we come closer?

13 - Yes, on the Iguazu River in Boat (that's another story)
..... More to come (about the sightseeing options and the Riverboat tour)
PS. This was originally meant to be posted under "Cyber Cruises" - but that meme has moved to Word Press. I'm not there yet. How to find out more about it, go to Mrs Lifecruiser
